When I was growing up, my mother said that everyone one has a purpose. You can see it in their true nature, what gives them the greatest joy, and how they move through life.
I never realized the significance of what she was saying until I meet Hanks.
Hanks was and is a Portuguese water dog. I meet him when he was about 12 weeks old. That first visit took place at a local lake. When we got to the lake, I ran and leaped into the water ready to retrieve a stick-or preferably a large log.
Hanks on the other hand walked slowly to the water and stuck his whole head into the water and began looking back and forth as if he was looking for something. It wasn’t until much later that I discovered that Portuguese water dogs were bred to herd fish into the fishermen’s nets and to retrieve any of their lost fishing gear.
To this day, Hanks doesn’t just get a drink of water instead he submerges his whole head into the water bowl and is fully delighted when his head is completely saturated with water. I on the other hand prefer to partner with my owner and retrieve anything she throws into the water. It is the teamwork that really delights me, which also makes me a good service dog.
So, have you thought about your own purpose? Have you thought about what were you were best designed to do? Is your temperament calm, reflective and supportive? Or is your energy robust and always active? Do you flourish in busy or stressful situations? Or are you better off in quiet situations?
Here is a clue: Think about what make you the happiest and think about what feels natural to you. Think about if you like to be solo or move in tandem with others? Think about if you like being center stage or prefer to be more in the wings.
No matter what your answers make sure they come from your heart, and they feel true to you.
If you would like some help figuring out your purpose, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities and/or attend the FREE Drawing in the Now classes that are taught by Nancy Marie over Zoom the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30 pm-5:00 pm PST.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
