My mother used to say, “Fear is contagious.” So, you need to learn how to settle yourself down when you feel fearful or anxious and, in the process, you will help your new owner settle themselves down as well. Recently Nancy was listening to a podcast where Kamala Harris said the same thing, “Fear is contagious!” Then she elaborated and said, “Courage can also be contagious.” Which pulls on your heart strings the most?
My mother wanted all of us to be prepared for our future. Some of my brothers and sisters would go to loving families and be a family dog or pet, while others would aspire for different pursuits. No matter what laid ahead in our future, our mother and her owner wanted to prepare us to be loving, compassionate and confident dogs that would bring positive energy to the world.
How did they accomplish this?
Well, to begin with when we were sleeping or playing, our mother’s owner would play specific sounds to familiarize us with them so that when we heard them in real life we weren’t startled or afraid. So, what were some of the sounds? Brakes screaking, horns blowing, cars back firing, people screaming, people fighting, fireworks going off, people cheering, and people crying. The only thing they hadn’t anticipated was the sound of the jets flying real low at the beginning of a fourth of July parade.
When Nancy and I were attending a parade in southern Oregon jets flew over us creating such a loud sound it made me want to jump out of my skin and run away. Fortunately, Nancy saw my reaction and didn’t flinch. Instead, she reached down and calmly placed her hands on my body. I could feel the love, compassion, and the understanding that exuded from her hands, and I relaxed. Then after a few moments she laughed and said, “I think they forgot to include that sound in your training.” I smiled in agreement.
So how can we duplicate this experience when we are stricken with fear or find ourselves acting from fear? I think the first step is to take a deep breath and visualize ourselves being held. This in turn can help us to slow down and connect more deeply with ourselves. From that vantage point ask yourself: What do you want to help spread around the globe? Love, and courage or fear, and anxiety. You can choose and your choice can make a difference. This not the time to push or force a specific outcome, but rather a time to stop, look, and listen and remember this can be accomplished most effectively in small steps.
If you would like some help learning how to create a safe haven for others when they become entangled with fear, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities and/or attend the FREE Drawing in the Now classes that are taught by Nancy Marie over Zoom the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30 pm-5:00 pm PST.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
