Here is my story.
Today on my morning walk with Nancy, she found herself exploring a playground and reminiscing about the playgrounds she used to play on when she was very young. She said her two favorite pieces of equipment at that time were the titer totter and the merry-go-round. Unfortunately, they are no longer part of some of today’s playgrounds.
In this process of discovery Nancy found herself remembering when she was on the merry-go-round that was spinning around and around and how she squealed with joy as her world become a dizzy blur. Nancy said the children would periodically jump off and pushed even harder in hopes of getting the merry-go-round to go faster. The adrenaline rush was thrilling but it also brought up ripples of fear, anxiety, and sometimes, even terror. Nancy said if she was hanging on to the outer edge, the ride was even more intense.
Often it felt like they were going to be thrown off and flung into the stratosphere––maybe even thrown into oblivion! But she said if you moved closer to the center of the merry-go-round, the ride was still fun but slightly less riddled with fear.
The titter totter also offered some thrilling moments.
Nancy said she still remembers stacking multiple kids on each end of the titter totter trying to see what combination people would enable them to create perfect balance.
Then if even just one person jumped off one end the balance was disturbed, and the other end of the titer totter would crash to the ground. OUCH!!
As I listened to Nancy talk about the global upheaval and unrest of today it seems we are creating experiences that feel like Nancy’s childhood rides on the merry-go-round and the titter totter. It is also reminding me of the need for balance and the impact it can have on all of us when balance is lost.
I find that when I allow myself to get caught up in the anxiety and overwhelm of others, which is like hanging on the outer edge of the merry-go-round, I can lose touch with my center, and what is important to me. This loss of centeredness can leave me feeling overwhelmed and dizzy with anxiety and fear.
However, when I allow the deep instinctual part of myself to crawl closer to my center, I am not only able to enjoy the ride more, but it also helps me to keep my heart open and help others find more enjoyment in the ride as well.
Since we aren’t currently riding on a merry-go-around or playing on a titer totter right now, how can we apply this wisdom to our lives?
Well, you can ask yourself some questions such as, “What can help me reclaim balance or move more closely to my center?” If the answer is stillness—then find a way to be still even if it is just for five minutes. If the answer is doing something fun, even if you can’t do something at that moment, you can probably take five minutes and recall something you did that was fun. That alone can change your mental state and subsequently have a positive impact on your body, mind, and spirit. If the answer is movement or exercise—even if you can’t go for a long run, hike, or bike ride, you can get up and walk for a few minutes with the intention of bringing more balance into your life and pulling yourself more into your center. We always have a choice! We can move through life balanced, centered, and clear or we can move through life stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed.
If you would like some help remembering how you can effectively move closer to your center and create more internal balance, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities and/or attend the FREE Drawing in the Now classes that are taught by Nancy Marie over Zoom the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30 pm-5:00 pm PST.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
