We were at a large conference where Nancy was scheduled to speak. As we waited Nancy reached down, stroked my chest and said, “You are with me”, making sure we were connected because she felt this was going to be a challenge for both of us. Then she slapped her knee and I slid my body closer and let my shoulder touch her knee. ‘We were a team, and we had a joint mission’ she said. Then someone announced Nancy and we walked to the front of the room.
Nancy was calm, and composed and I was on high alert. I could feel everyone’s eyes on both Nancy and me. Nancy flexed her index finger on my leash just to say, “We are together. This is exciting and finally you are doing a good job.”
When we reached the front of the room, Nancy put me in a ‘down-stay’ close to her and began. She was calm, relaxed, and very clear on her intent. Then about ten minutes in to her speech, a woman in the front row began leaning forward waving her hand trying to get my attention. When I merely maintained my composure and kept my focus on Nancy, she began clicking her fingers trying to pull my attention from Nancy to her. When she wasn’t successful in breaking my concentration, she began making a clicking sound with her voice.
All of this time Nancy proceeded with her presentation in her normal relaxed and gentle way, but when the woman began making the clicking sound with her mouth, I could feel Nancy straighten her spine and slowly move her body in front of me. Then she stepped closer to the woman who was trying to get me to break protocol and asked her what her name was. Even though Nancy looked relaxed and calm I could feel an iron rod growing in her spine and an explosion boiling up inside her ribs. The woman sat up straighter and said, “Ruth”. Thank you, Nancy responded.
Then the controlled explosion began. I breathed deeply to anchor my connection with Nancy and to let her know I had her back. You seem to be more interested in getting my service dog to break protocol then with the information I am presenting here today that could possibly impact all of your students—both present and future. With that she made a sweeping movement with her hand and arm as if to include everyone in her final phrase
She then continued, “I am not here to participate in a power game, I am here to educate conscious, caring, and devoted teachers. I would appreciate it if you would move to the back row and allow someone from the back row who is really appreciating my presentation and let them have one of the coveted seats in the front row, because I don’t want to witness or be affected by your inappropriate behavior.”
The room let out a gasp as Ruth stood up and slowly walked to the last row with her head down. The woman who took her now vacant seat was grinning from ear to ear. Nancy never raised her voice, she was merely applying the principles she was there to teach.
Then she said, “I think it would be good to take a 10-minute break. Please stand up, walk a little, go to bathroom, get some water, or switch seats if the current arrangement doesn’t give you the best opportunity for learn this material. Please note: I am fine with you moving chairs but Ruth you need to remain in the back row. We will continue in 10 minutes and finally, thank you for the opportunity to share my life’s work with you.”
Everyone applauded as Nancy reached down to stroke my fur and indicate we were going outside with her hands. I leaped to my feet and wagged my tail. Nancy smiled at me and said you did a great job!

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
