Independence Day, also known as the 4th of July, is a federal holiday in the United States. It commemorates the ratification of the Declaration of Independence and the establishing of the United States of America.
Today the 4th of July tends to be a day of celebration and joy with parades, fireworks, and picnics. All the celebration on this day is a reminder that the joy of freedom and independence was and is not free.
The first 4th of July parade I attended I was still in training but was able follow Nancy’s instructions. I laid down by her feet and waited for the parade to start. Then several jets roared over us to announce the beginning of the parade. I was startled. I panicked and leaped to my feet and tried to run. Nancy immediately grabbed my body and held me until I stopped shaking.
My mom’s owner had exposed us to a lot of different sounds, so we wouldn’t be easily startled, but she neglected to include one sound-the sound of the jets roaring over my head. Finally, I was able to settle down and watch the rest of the parade, but I never really relaxed until we began walking home.
My mother used to say, don’t let a sleeping dog fool you, because they might not really be sleeping but rather waiting for the moment you aren’t paying attention. This was important to remember on that first 4th of July parade. It is also important today because there is a lot of upheaval, and uncertainty. I wasn’t prepared for the jets, so they startled me, and I panicked. Since that day I have tried to prepare myself for the unexpected by moving slow in a thoughtful and calculated manner. This is what a good Medical Alert dog does, and I think we all should approach life in this manner as well because of the unexpected and uncertainty of today.
If you would like some help remembering how to prepare yourself for the unexpected, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities that will help you remember what you need to do to be prepared.
You can also explore by yourself some of the ICWIB activities

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
