Here is my story:
One day when Nancy and I were hiking on a trail we had walked on many times before, I began smelling something different. It was a smell I had never smelt before. I began sniffing the air repeatedly trying to identify what I was smelling. My body began to feel tentative and a bit anxious. Then Nancy reached down and clipped my leash on to my collar. This was unexpected because I had always been able to run free on this trail if I followed her instructions, but something felt different.
Nancy slowed down her pace and began listening to see if she could get a clue to what I was reacting to. I slowed down too, sniffing the air with every step. This calculated sniff, step, sniff, step went on for about 10 minutes until we rounded the corner and I saw where the smell was coming from. It was a large black bear. My enthusiasm wanted me to run down the hill and meet this strange being and yet in that moment Nancy held her ground and told me to ‘sit’.
Then we stood and sat there watching the bear. He wasn’t the least bit interested in us. Instead, he was scratching his back against a tree. First one side and then the other with great contentment. I felt my body relax as I watched this animal who was probably 12 times my size being comfortable with just being a bear. I wondered how many people or animals were this comfortable with themselves. If they weren’t had they lost their deep sense of self and the contentment of being who they truly were?
If they had lost it, how could they get that primal knowledge back?
I thought about my mom and how she encouraged all of us to be ourselves and how that encouragement had led me to my life of being a medical alert dog. I watched that bear emersed in his life and the scratching of his back and I thought about the little steps that had helped me become that dog I was today and sighed with recognition and contentment.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
