I want to talk about Labor Day.
On this day, what are we celebrating?
Today Labor Day is no longer about trade unionists marching down the street with banners and their tools of trade. Labor Day also is not just a Holiday that marks the end of summer. It is a day that we gather and celebrate the 155 million hard-working men and women that have helped build this country and are the backbone of this nation.
The original Labor Day holiday was meant to resolve the problem of long working hours and no time off. Although some of these issues were solved long ago. Many of these same issues are now rising to the top for many workers across the nation and throughout the world.
Do you feel drawn to honor and support those who are not receiving adequate appreciation for their work and energy?
Is there a simple way that you can personally show your appreciation and make a difference for these workers- both past and present? I think the easiest response is to value what they do or do for you and thank them personally.
Nancy has a friend who religiously takes homemade brownies to businesses and workers that she values, appreciates, and admires. This is not a one stop event but, rather something she does year-round. Also remember it is not necessarily what you do, but how you hold them in your mind that can send a clear message of appreciation and value.
