When you view or review an event do you focus only on the obvious or literally story or do you look for the metaphor or insight it might provide? Lisa, a friend of Nancy’s, told Nancy a story yesterday that I found to be very funny.
Here is the story.
When Lisa was young her aunt had an apple tree. She loved these apples so much that every day she would pick either one or several apples to eat. Her aunt wasn’t happy about her apples disappearing, so she asked Lisa to not pick and then eat the apples off her tree. Lisa agreed to not eat the apples she had picked off the tree. Instead, she got a tall stool, climbed onto the tall stool, and ate the apples while they were still on the tree leaving the apple cores on the tree.
After I heard this story, I began to ask myself some questions. Is it better to focus on the literal story or to explore what insights I might uncover from the story?
After a lot of thought I concluded that we all have been stopped and subsequently felt powerless. We also have all stuck our head in the sand to ignore a situation in hopes of deflecting its possible outcome. Though I think it is not the situation or story but rather how we respond to the situation that decides who we are tomorrow.
Lisa reviewed her aunt’s request and, in the process, found a creative solution where she was following her aunt’s request and wasn’t eating apples she had picked, but was able to eat her beloved apples.
Have you ever experienced a challenging situation and not known how to disentangle yourself so you can find a creative solution? If you have, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities and/or attend the FREE Drawing in the Now classes that are taught by Nancy Marie over Zoom the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30 pm-5:00 pm PST.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
