When I was still with my mom, she often would talk about the job or work we would do when we went to our new homes. She would ask what the word ‘work’ meant to us. She would ask if we thought it was something to avoid or if it was a means to an end?
One day when I began my training to be a medical alert dog for Nancy, I was having trouble staying focused and remembering what I needed to do my trainer gently said “…Before Enlightenment chop wood, carry water, and after Enlightenment, chop wood, carry water….”
So, what’s the difference? I asked.
She said, the task is the same. The need is the same, but who is chopping the wood? And who is carrying water? Those answers can change everything. You need to be fully present to see a problem and come up with a solution. You can’t let yourself be distracted or overwhelmed so you can make clear choices for Nancy she continued.
So, when you can’t focus or feel like you are bouncing off walls you need to do something to help you reconnect with yourself, your job, and your commitment. Think of what you do as your version of chop wood and carry water.
So where can I begin?
Notice when you are pulled out of your center and clarity and then the second step is to simplify! Next pull your energy inward so you can remain neutral and non-reactionary. Without letting your mind wander too far, be grateful for all the circumstances that put you where you are today.
We travel to the ocean, mountains, and rivers to experience the awe that arises in nature’s magnificence. At the same time when we allow ourselves to experience some of the same awe in the mundane world of our daily life, we give ourselves a great gift.
I wish there wasn’t so much fragmented and negative energy today, but there is. In response we can recoil or reach out and connect in an authentic way that can help heal many.
If you would like some help remembering how to connect more deeply with the awe of yourself and your chosen path, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities and/or attend the FREE Drawing in the Now classes that are taught by Nancy Marie over Zoom the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30 pm-5:00 pm PST.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
