When I was going through my training Nancy would often ask me if I was happy. Did I like being a service dog or would I prefer to just being a dog. I knew she was just trying to make sure I was comfortable with my role and the responsibility of being a medical alert dog, because being a service dog can be very stressful.
Every time she brought this up in conversation, I felt sense of pride and purpose swell up in my chest. I would move closer and lay my head on her leg. I knew this was my calling. This position would allow me to serve Nancy, but it could also be a way I could show others what devotion, love and purpose looked like and how they could create it in their own lives.
I was with Nancy all the time. We traveled on buses, taxies, trains, and airplanes together. I went into restaurants, hotels, stores, and classrooms with Nancy. As the days moved from training to be a medical Alert dog to me being a Medical Alert dog, I came to realize that knowing your purpose and committing to it can give you clarity, a sense of safety, and deep inner peace.
One of the things I like the best about being a Medical Alert dog is the teamwork. I have worked every day to be on track and connected to Nancy but sometimes a bigger picture helped me see how just being me could help others find themselves and restore balance in their life.
With this in mind, I want to ask you: Do you have a clear sense of purpose? Or do you just raddle along without a clear direction? If you want to move to more clarity, then begin by looking at what you are good at and what you love to do. Is your temperament calm, reflective and supportive? Or is your energy robust and always active? Do you flourish in busy or stressful situations? Or are you better off in quiet situations?
Here is a clue: Think about what makes you the happiest and think about what feels natural to you. Think about if you like to be solo or move in tandem with others? Think about if you like being center stage or prefer to be more in the wings. No matter what your answers make sure they come from your heart, and they feel true to you.
I wish life was less stressful, but I have found that knowing your purpose can help you create transformative relationships and situations.
If you would like some help remembering how to connect more deeply with yourself and your purpose,
I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities and/or attend the FREE Drawing in the Now classes that are taught by Nancy Marie over Zoom the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30 pm-5:00 pm PST.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
