I love water! I love playing in the water and retrieving in the water, but when I was young, I didn’t know I could swim. I would play in the water and felt very comfortable in the water if the water wasn’t deeper than my chest. Now this didn’t make sense to me or Nancy since poodles are retrievers with web feet.
After several attempts at one of our favorite lakes Nancy decided it was time to change our approach. She bought me a life jacket so my body would float, and I could get familiar with how my body needed to move so I could eventually swim. I can remember that first day.
We got to the lake early. Then walked to a place near the water’s edge. Nancy took off her regular clothes and was just wearing her bathing suit. Then she put on my life jacket. It felt weird, but Nancy assured me that it would feel different in the water. Then she hooked my leach to my collar. Laughing as she spoke, she said, “…just in case you decide to swim all the way to China…”
Then she started walking into the water with me. I was excited and a bit anxious, but Nancy continued talking to me in a slow, soft, and gentle way. “You can do this! Look at how easily your body is moving through the water. Your legs are moving together. Can you feel how strong your body is? You are doing a great job.”
That was the first time that Nancy walked, and I swam together. We moved through the water until the water was chest deep on Nancy. Then she turned around and we began to move back to the shore. Nancy’s voice never wavered. She continued to encourage and support me in a way that helped me feel safe, loved, and move away from my anxiety. At one point I realized I was really enjoying myself.
I think Nancy’s faltering support helped me overcome my fear and become the swimmer I was born to be. Have you ever been afraid to do something? In those moments was there someone there to support you and encourage to keep trying? Or did you feel alone and isolated?
If you need more support to meet your challenge or help remembering how to support yourself through your current challenge, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities.
You can also explore by yourself some of the ICWIB activities https://icreatewhatibelieve.com/explore/ that can help you see and generate the support you need.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
