There are many stories about where April Fools’ Day and the custom of making fools and/or playing harmless practical jokes on April 1st originated.
Some historians suggest that April Fools’ Day originated in the Middle Ages, while others have different theories.
In my mind it doesn’t really matter where it originated or has been used in the past. What matters during this current time of chaos, dishonesty, upheaval, and horrifying incidents, is we need to find more ways to incorporate additional humor and laughter into our daily life.
Why?
Laughter is a very powerful tool. It can help us separate truth from untruth, lift us out of anxiety or depression, and help us reconnect with our authentic self. When that happens, we become clear eyed and have the ability to resist the negative forces that are playing out these days.
Think about what it looks like when an owner wants his or her dog to do something, but the dog has other plans. They become unmoving, limp, or dead weight. In that single action they express where they stand and what they want to do or not do.
How can you express where you stand and what is important to you? Do you go dead weight? Or roll over on your back indicating that you are not interested in participating? Remember, when a dog is clear they don’t have to argue—they just hold their ground and indicate they are interested or not interested in participating.
So once again, I don’t think it really matter where April Fools’ Day originated or how you have used it before. Instead, I think what can really be helpful during these difficult times is for everyone to find their own inner mischief-maker and bring more laughter into your lives to counterbalance the fear and terror that is currently being generated by some individuals.
If you would like some help finding your own inner prankster, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities and/or attend the FREE Drawing in the Now classes that are taught by Nancy Marie over Zoom the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30 pm-5:00 pm PST.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
