When I was a pup, my mother used to say that learning how to create good relationships was very, very important, because a good relationship can help you change your perceptions and transform your life and the life of your new owner.
Nancy once told me that she began her artistic career as a sculptor and her main media was either wood or clay. She said the pattern and integrity of the wood grain needed her to include and incorporate its attributes consciously into the piece. The unbendingness of the wood also required her to “see” the whole picture and to follow its lead. In retrospect I realized that the experience was very similar to a relationship where everyone is seen and valued for what they bring to the collaboration. When this happens something greater than the two arises and is the foundation for a good and meaningful life.
On the other hand, Nancy said, clay because of its yielding and accommodating properties allowed her to approach the task with unbridled energy, and emotions. It also allowed her to infuse the creation or relationship with new energy and shift her perceptions. So, it seems to me that both aspects have a place in a good and lasting connection or relationship.
One day, as we sat outside enjoying the late afternoon air, I found myself reflecting on my relationships. Were they made of wood or were they made of clay? I decide that they contained both.
If you want to make changes in your life, I suggest you look at your relationships––Are they made of wood or clay? Maybe they are made of both. It is important to remember, you will be adding more confusion to your life if you aren’t clear on how to approach a particular relationship at a given moment. If the connection today is made of clay, you can approach this person or situation with your unformed clarity.
On the other hand, if a connection is made of wood, this encounter requires you to create a conscious container that holds your processing within you so you can see what wants to be born. This kind of connection can sometimes feel cold, and impersonal, but at its core it is a profound form of love.
Problems can be created when you approach a situation from wood when it needs to be approached from clay or visa versa. At the same time, if you take the time to be clear on your approach the connection can drive you deeper into the moment and deeper into your authentic self.
How can that happen? Well, the truth is that when you go through this process you are merely activating my conscious problem-solving mind and creating a situation where your presence alone can change your life and the lives of others.
I wish there wasn’t so much fragmented and negative energy today, but there is. In response we can recoil or reach out and create transformative relationships that can produce a better day for many.
If you would like some help remembering how to connect more deeply with yourself and your need for healthy relationships, I suggest you explore the I Create What I Believe (ICWIB) program where my friend Luke will demonstrate the ICWIB activities and/or attend the FREE Drawing in the Now classes that are taught by Nancy Marie over Zoom the first and third Monday of the month from 4:30 pm-5:00 pm PST.

In a recent interview Dr. Bruce Lipton said, “…Freedom is the ability to create without the limitation of generational programming. The I Create What I Believe! (ICWIB!) Program is a gateway and a pathway into a new and better future because it allows children and (adults) to fully express themselves and to not be limited by the beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. This program also frees up children’s and (adults’) minds and allows their creative nature to create a better world for all of us, which is what we need right now!”
