I came to the realization that the only thing that had changed was…
I would like to tell you a story about a dear friend of mine.
Recently she discovered she had a life-threatening disease and probable wouldn’t live more than five years. Upon hearing this news, she like many people freaked out. I mean she really freaked out! She cried continuously for several days, refused to talk with anyone and seemed to be heading down a deep downward spiral then much to our surprise it all stopped. She was up out in the world, smiling, laughing and seemingly enjoying life.
“What happened? Are you a great actor or is this behavior rooted in truth?” I asked her. She smiled and then she actually blushed and said, “…When I first got the news I was freaked out. Then I was mad. Then I was really sad and then….. I realized I was being really stupid. Here I was wasting my last days wailing about not have many days left— That was stupid!!!”
“It was then that I realized I hadn’t been living my life before with the awareness that it was only for a limited period of time. And the truth is, we all only have a limited amount of time, but rarely do we approach our life from that perspective.
When I came to the realization that the only thing that had changed was someone actually gave me an expiration date—or a possible expiration date. Now I needed to decide how I was going to fill my days.”
If you would like help reconnecting with your authentic nature and becoming clear on how you want to fill your days, I invite you to explore some of the ICWIB art activities and videos for FREE. Why?
