When I began my artistic career, as a Sculptor my main media was either wood or clay, for two very distinct reasons. The pattern and integrity of the wood grain required that I include and incorporate its attributes consciously into the piece. The experience was very similar to a relationship where each individual is seen and valued for what they bring to the collaboration. When this happens something greater than the two arises. Clay on the other hand is more adaptable and willing to yield to my vision.
Day after day, I would sense, feel and talk to the clay and wood grain and a dialogue between me, matter and what matters would arise. The unbendingness of the wood required me to “see” the whole picture and to know where I am going. On the other hand, clay, because of its yielding and accommodating properties allowed me to approach it with a spontaneous flurry of unbridled energy, feelings and emotions.
Look at your relationships––Are they made of wood or clay? Maybe they are made of both. Remember, you are adding more confusion to your life if you aren’t clear on how to approach a particular relationship at a given moment. If the connection today is made of clay you can approach this person with your unformed clarity and internal confusion and they will remain unruffled.
On the other hand if a connection is made of wood, this encounter requires you to create a conscious container that holds your processing within you. This kind of connection can sometimes feel cold, harsh, and impersonal, but at its core it is a profound form of love.
Problems are created when I approach a situation from wood when I need to be approaching it from clay or visa versa. At the same time, if I take the time to be clear on my approach the connection can drive me deeper into the moment and deeper into myself.
In that moment I became the moment, the universe and me.
How can that happen? Well the truth is that when I go through this process I am merely activating my conscious problem-solving mind.
So if you would like to experience this process, I invite you to explore some of the ICWIB art activities and videos for FREE. Why? They are a simple and affective way to help you unravel confusion, become more present and create a life that is a true reflection of who you are and what you believe.
